In late 1987/early 1988, Ditko approached Marvel editor Jim Salicrup with a concept that would replay many of the themes of Peter Parker and the Amazing Spider-Man. Ditko told Salicrup there was still value in a coming-of-age story of a teenager forced to deal with extraordinary powers and the responsibility those powers imposed of his life. Ditko would plot all stories in the ten-issue run (plus the "pilot episode" in the 1988 Amazing Spider-Man Annual), but was forced to deal with a myriad of inkers over the title's run. Ditko refused to ink his mainstream work, and the results were hit and miss, but by far the best work was done by the man who inked the Annual story and the first two issues - Jackson Guice. Guice did an excellent job staying true to Ditko's intent, but also did an excellent job building on Ditko's strengths.
