ITEM! Marvel Masterworks Spider-Man volume with Amazing Fantasy #15 original art (& my commentary) out today!
So long since out last update, so many things to update, and so little time because we've been working on the Bill Everett book, plus another secret Steve Ditko project, but I had to put out the word that I have a new contribution to Ditko criticism coming out today. Marvel Comics has reprinted up to issue #10 of Amazing Spider-Man in a more-affordable paperback format ($24.99), but the real reason to buy this one over all others is the bonus feature: the first reprinting of the original artwork to Amazing Fantasy #15 that was donated last year to the Library of Congress! As if that wasn't enough, Marvel asked me to do up a two-page essay on this, and then provide commentary of each of the 11 pages in the story regarding what I saw of interest on the original art. I was given access to seriously high quality and large scans of the artwork and found some fascinating stuff that will only add to the legend of Ditko and Lee's creation! The Marvel web site's Ditko page shows the two variants for this volume, and click below for a direct link where you can purchase the book on Amazon.com (for 34% off the cover price). Once we clear the work on the Everett book, we'll be back with more updates.

At the July '08 San Diego Comicon, I held court with Kim Deitch, Gary Groth, Jim Starlin, Carl Potts and Liana K. on the "World of Steve Ditko" panel that celebrated the release of my new book. Now, you can listen to the audio and follow along at home with a .pdf of the images we discussed on the panel. ITEM! The interview that ended all interviews!
We're back with another "In Between The Covers" entry, where we take a deeper look behind the production of my "World of Steve Ditko" book! Today's entry is a huge one! It's the original notes of former Eclipse Comics editor-in-chief Cat Yronwode from her 1983 interview with Ditko's brother Pat that caused all the mayhem and led to Ditko withdrawing his sanction from the "Art of Steve Ditko" that Eclipse was going to publish the following year! The entry can be found in our Project History section!
